Sculpture. Intermediate and advanced

Two Different Approaches to the figure.
A two week hands – on workshop and a chance to see and understand the entire working process of two outstanding sculptors. Creating the human figure in clay will be the focus of this session by two clay artists  from Seattle.  Tip Toland and Patti Warashina explore their personal  narratives in which the figure becomes the subject of their personal visions.
Using different  building techniques and construction, each artist will present a demonstration by building figurative clay work supplemented by visual  presentations.   Their joint teaching is comprehensive in order to learn different building techniques for large figures. Patti will demonstrate coiling her figures as well as using molds, and Tip will build in solid clay on an armature, then hollow when the clay is stiff. Distinctly different surface work of each artist will also be demonstrated during the second week of this session.  Cold work as well as glazed surfaces,  used by the artists  will be demonstrated to complete the work.
The participants in the workshop will be able to construct their own projects using the various techniques shown, in which both artists will be available for assistance.
