Plastic figures with clay: The human body in the abstract
The design of a human figure made of clay has fascinated humanity for millennia, and lately the concern about this theme in the arts has again gained focus. During this workshop we will learn the basics of professional ceramic nude modelling. It's fun to deal with the issue in a small group. Dare to try! This course is suitable for beginners and advanced.
After a brief introduction on clay body, tools and techniques we will deal with the basic structure of the human body (proportions, volumes, static and movement of the figure). We will create our own sculptural expression of the human body: modelling the essentials, learning to look closely, elaborating, understanding and implementing what we see are the concerns of the workshop. Step by step every participant will find their very own vocabulary to design their individual pieces. The work will be fired after the workshop and best way for transportation home will be discussed (Transport through La Meridiana or shipping). The instructor will show interesting surface structures and the possibility of coloured surface without additional firings. We will benefit from a some excursions to enjoy the beauty of Tuscany.
Teaching languages: German and Italian, with translation of the introduction and theory in English.

 Thomas Welti was born 1955 in Baden and after working as an accountant has changed to become a sculptor. He has studied at the Zurich School of Design and after several years of training has opened his own studio in Tuscany, where he lives and works since 1996. Main theme of his work in ceramic, stone and wood is the human body, particularly the female nude, in a slightly abstract representation. His work is shown in exhibitions at home and abroad, providing access to art and artistic expression to a wide audience and are expression of an independent and creative style.
