31 The marvels of Agate Technique
Susan Nemeth - www.susannemeth.co.uk
July 28st - August 3rd, 2013

Handbuilding. For all

Press moulding and slab building using coloured porcelain. In this course we will explore colour, pattern and imagery using various techniques of staining and layering slips and porcelains. The decoration will be integral. The technique involves laminating sheets of coloured clays inlaid with hand cut patterns, rolling and stretching the layers to create simple shapes from flat sheets of clay.
It will include drawing with the knife to make fine inlay, using sheets of clays to create collage, layering, cutting and re combining to generate agate, producing inlay from impressions and painting and pouring slips. Finishing techniques will enhance the pure qualities of the clay to produce a soft, matt surface. There will be plenty of demonstrations and students will develop their design and technical skills and have ample opportunity to experiment.

Cost: € 860
The workshop fee includes:

  • tuition (class is 6/7 hours per day with 12 hours studio time)
  • materials and firings
