27 Mould making and slip casting
with Bone China

Sasha Wardell - www.sashawardell.com
July 1st - 7th, 2012

Intermediate and advanced

Architectural detail and sections of structures, combined with an interest in illusions provide the starting point for Sasha’s intriguing pieces whilst the inherent qualities of the clay do the rest - its whiteness offers a pure blank canvas for the inclusion of colour and its translucency enhances any varying degree of luminosity.
In this ceramic course she will guide participants how to make a simple drop-out plaster mould from provided plaster models. There will also be the possibility to carve a pouring lip ( for a jug) and a handle ( both in plaster) and subsequently make a 2-piece mould from that. Participants will be able to make, at least, 3 moulds ( i.e.1 bowl/cup, 1 jug and 1 handle mould). There will be the chance to alter the original model, by carving, and make subsequent moulds. Slip casting experiments using bone china and coloured casting slips can also be done into dry moulds, if desired. Demonstrations during the week to include:
- plaster preparation
- altering the plaster model by hand carving
- staining/colouring and casting the slip (bone china)
- various decorating techniques
- setter making ( firing supports)
The firing of bone china will be explained.

Cost € 860 Includes welcome dinner, lunches, lodging, tuition, materials and firings.
