October 20th - November 2nd, 2013

Throwing and handbuilding. For all

This fully hands-on workshop in glorious springtime Tuscany introduces participants to high-fire flameware for making clay cooking pots. We will explore the utilitarian necessities of a clay cooking pot for use in the oven and broiler, on the stovetop or grill; and the many aesthetic considerations for a beautiful pot presented directly to the table from the kitchen.  Casseroles, broilers, bakers, roasters, teakettles, skillets, saucepots, oven/pizza stones, trivets (and more) are all possible forms that may be investigated.  Demonstrations, hands-on practice, and lively discussion will give participants a solid foundation for working with flameware and for ideas to take shape in the form of handmade pots for the delicious foods of Tuscany and beyond -- to slow food & a healthy world.
We will make cooking pots and fire those flameware pots in the soda kiln.
There will be a cooking class for all participants, to experiment with flameware casseroles and Tuscan ingredients.
We will fully experience our surroundings as we taste local wines & olive oil & chocolate, take a tour to an organic far, shop small markets in San Gimignano & local hill towns, partake in deliciously prepared meals...
all in beautiful & bountiful Tuscany!
