33 Throwing Techniques and Vapour Glazing
Instructor: Pietro Maddalena
Type: Throwing and hand building
Intermediate and advanced
Date: August 18 - 28 2010
This course will concentrate mainly on the development of both making techniques and aesthetic visual vocabulary. The introduction to, and practice of different ways of manipulating clay, from throwing to the finishing processes, will expand familiarity with the medium and open new possibilities of self expression. All work will be fired using the vapour glazing techniques. The choice of a particular way of firing can influence dramatically the expressive options of the ceramic artist. In vapour glazing the essential transformation brought about by heat and vapours is seen as part of the creative process. This chemically energetic activity can produce varied and exceptional graduations of colour, texture, pattering and flashing in the clays, slips and glazes.
