33 Paperclay with Porcelain
Luca Tripaldi - www.giallocaino.com
August 11th - 17th, 2013

Handbuilding. For all

Paperclay with porcelain is a material with infinite possibilities. It combines the multitude of making techniques possible with paperclay with the strength and the translucency of porcelain allowing the creation of unique objects, from the functional to the purely abstract. You will learn the preparation of various mixtures of paperclay with porcelain, which will be used in liquid form for filigree, dipping and casting, or at the plastic state for sculpture and use of paperclay sheets. The objects will be fired at 1260 C and may be left unglazed for a beautiful matt, white feel, or enhanced with contrasting or subtle glazes. Those who are already expert will extend their technical knowledge, while those at their first experience will be introduced to the subject in an unusual and playful way.
The results are fresh and dynamic glazing designs, which enhance the bare surface of objects.

Cost: € 880
The workshop fee includes:

  • tuition (class is 6/7 hours per day with 12 hours studio time)
  • materials and firings
  • lodging in double room; single room on request at extra cost of 250 ?
  • welcome dinner
  • welcome breakfast
  • a freshly prepared Tuscan lunch with wine on the working days

La MeridianaLuca Tripaldi was born in Turin in 1969. Graduated on graphic art before working on sculpture and then been taken by ceramics until he opened a workshop in Turin in 1999. He has been particularly interested on the development of smoke firing techniques and fascinated by the qualities of the surfaces that these processes can offer. In recent years he had a strong interest in studying and developing crystals glazes and carbon trapping. He is sharing a studio in London and has been invited to teach at prestigious ceramic schools in the USA.
