30 Fresh like water colour:
Metallic salts on porcelain

Luca Tripaldi - www.giallocaino.com
July 21st - 27th, 2013

Throwing or hand building. For all

During the five days of workshop we will create functional or abstract objects in porcelain, either on the wheel or with handbuilding techniques. Luca will demonstrate various throwing techniques and ways to alter the thrown form while still wet, expanding, compressing and modifying shapes, insufflating air. The same techniques may be used also to modify hand built forms.
The surfaces will be smoothed in two stages, to obtain a suave soft feel, similar to sea shells. Firing will be without dry glaze for a matt white surface, a canvas on which superimpose intense but delicate washes of color using metal salts.
The results are fresh and dynamic glazing designs, which enhance the bare surface of objects.

Cost: € 880
The workshop fee includes:

  • tuition (class is 6/7 hours per day with 12 hours studio time)
  • materials and firings
  • lodging in double room with shared bathroom facilities; single room on request
  • shared cooking facilities
  • welcome dinner
  • welcome breakfast
  • a freshly prepared Tuscan lunch with wine on the working days

La MeridianaLuca Tripaldi was born in Turin in 1969. Graduated on graphic art before working on sculpture and then been taken by ceramics until he opened a workshop in Turin in 1999. He has been particularly interested on the development of smoke firing techniques and fascinated by the qualities of the surfaces that these processes can offer. In recent years he had a strong interest in studying and developing crystals glazes and carbon trapping. He is sharing a studio in London and has been invited to teach at prestigious ceramic schools in the USA.
