Raku and Naked Raku
June 26th - July 2nd, 2011
Handbuilding and throwing. For all
Raku for its exciting and quick firing process is the ideal technique for those who want to approach the basic techniques of clay modeling. For the already experienced in making and firing we will encourage experiment to broaden the awareness of the range and variety of work possible with this firing technique. We will test glazes, various possibilities for decoration, such as the use of gum, wax-resist, masking tape, slip-resist, shellac and will also make naked raku. A basic explanation of the materials and composition that concur to the making of glazes will be the base for future personal research, as to be able to modify their characteristics to own needs and taste. Particular attention will be given to surface treatment and their embellishment in pre and post firing process.
Cost: € 860
Includes tuition, materials and firings, lodging, lunches
Luca Tripaldi was born in Turin in 1969. Graduated on graphic art before working on sculpture and then been taken by ceramics until he opened a workshop in Turin in 1999. He has been particularly interested on the development of smoke firing techniques and fascinated by the qualities of the surfaces that these processes can offer. In recent years he had a strong interest in studying and developing crystals glazes and carbon trapping. He is sharing a studio in London and has been invited to teach at prestigious ceramic schools in the USA.
