44 Glaze course
John Colbeck
October 27 – November 2 2013

For all

Stoneware glazes of great variety and beauty were in common use many centuries ago. In the late nineteenth century, ceramic technicians began to work towards a scientific understanding of glaze but it is a common misapprehension that scientific knowledge is a necessary prerequisite to evolving and experimenting with glaze. The aim of this 5 days course is to give participants the understanding and confidence to work logically and empirically with glaze materials to vary the surface qualities and colors of glazes. Additionally there will demonstrations of various ways to apply glazes to different forms.
Students will be provided with test pieces and work will be fired at 1280°C in reduction but to emphasize the fact that the principles are equally applicable there will be a firing to 1280°C in oxidized conditions. No previous experience with glaze is necessary.

Cost: € 860
