Throwing. Beginners and advanced

This course is intended both for beginners and more advanced students.
Our aim is that, within the framework of the course, the distinct needs of different levels of experience will be met through individual and group teaching.
Each working day will commence with demonstrations to the group. Individuals may then either work in relation to those demonstrations or, if they wish and are more advanced, may pursue their individual intentions, in both cases with the attention and support of the instructor. Making demonstrations will include: the throwing and shaping of vertical forms, bowl forms and flat plate forms; the making of spouted and lidded forms, larger throwing and two and multi piece throwing.
Decoration demonstrations will include: impressing, incising, sgraffito, slip application and resist, glazing and over glazing, painting processes. All work will be fired in gas reduction kilns at 1280.
The practical work of the course will be complemented by three talks: two illustrated talks with visual and making considerations showing contemporary and historical ceramic work and one on firing and stoneware glazes.

Cost: € 1550
The workshop fee includes:

  • tuition (class is 6/7 hours per day with 12 hours studio time)
  • materials and firings
  • lodging in double room; single room on request at extra cost of € 250
  • welcome dinner
  • welcome breakfast
  • a freshly prepared Tuscan lunch with wine on the working days
