Is the food enough decoration for your platter? In this two week, intensive workshop we will focus on designing and making pots especially for the table... pots that enhance the experience of eating and serving food.
What better place to explore this subject than Italy, a country known for beauty and food?
We can draw upon the classic Tuscan landscape surrounding La Meridiana Studio for inspiration. In this fine ceramic studio well make pots on the wheel and by hand and explore a cornucopia of techniques for embellishing what we make. The focus will be on designing for use, and forming good, practical pots .We will be working with traditional Mediterranean materials... Terra cotta clay, Coloured Slips and a clear glaze.
While pots are being fired, well have the opportunity to look at some ancient pots in Florence, Sienna and the old Etruscan city of Volterra, where we can explore some of the richness of the Tuscan culture, with its great Art, Architecture and Ceramics .
Students will live in a restored Tuscan farmhouse in an Olive grove, an easy walk from the studio. Many meals will be provided. And our chef, Lucia may consult with us in our design process.
Cost 2.100 € (Includes tuition, lodging, lunches, materials and firings)
