38 Altered pots
Instructor: Ellen Shankin
Type: Throwing. For all
Date:September 19 – October 2, 2010
This will be the 5th time Ellen is teaching at La Meridiana, in this place of beauty, surrounded by rich artistic history, and the incredible pleasures of fine food, wine, and the magical Tuscan countryside.
We will take the opportunity to work hard, in this inspiring environment, focusing on throwing pots that might find their place on our tables, once home, when serving a wonderful Italian meal. Oil bottles, olive bowls, cappuccino cups, serving bowls and more. Throwing has been the focus and passion of my life in clay. In this workshop I will offer instruction in the many ways that I have come to alter thrown forms: shaving, paddling, cutting and poking on the newly thrown wet clay or in the leather hard stage. Conversations about design decisions will encircle every demo and effort in the studio.
There will be a balance struck between serious focused time in the Pottery and Italian adventures. We will visit local potters, take in the sights and sounds of ancient hill towns in the region, and day trip out to points of ceramic interest. Opportunities will be offered for cooking classes, wine and chocolate tasting and more.
