37 Extruding porcelain objects
Luca Tripaldi
www.lucatripaldijewelry.com
September 13th – 19th 2015

Handbuilding. For all.

Due to its extraordinary elasticity, porcelain is particularly suitable to be extruded. With a wide array of laser cut and artist designed extruding barrels available, we will extrude solid and empty elements of various shapes to be combined and assembled together. In addition, students will learn how to create their own extruding barrels in porcelain, so to be able to personalize further their work. Surface techniques will be taught that can be applied in other context as well.
The endless possibilities of combinations allow to create functional objects or abstract shapes.
Luca will show various ways to design the object and how to assemble, alter and combine the extruded parts. While still soft, alteration opens great possibilities of modelling. Those who are expert with clay will enjoy speed in studying and developing a form. Beginners will be enthralled by the simplicity of making.

Cost: € 960
The workshop fee includes the following:
- Tuition (class is 6-8  hours per day with 12 hours studio time)
- All materials and firings
- Lodging in double room; single room on request, add 140 €
- Welcome dinner and welcome breakfast
- A freshly prepared full Tuscan lunch with wine on all working days.

La MeridianaLuca Tripaldi was born in Turin, Italy, where he currently lives and has his studio. After training in graphic design, he worked for ten years in Mario Audello Studios as a sculptor, making masks and special effects for many opera houses like “Scala di Milano” and “Arena di Verona”. In 1998 he opened his own ceramic studio in Turin. He prefers to use porcelain, opposing unglazed surfaces with brilliant surfaces obtained through crystalline glazes in order to get strong contrasts. He conducts an intensive teaching activitie, holding workshops throughout Europe and the United States. He writes a technical ceramic column for the Italian ceramic magazin ”La Ceramica in Italia e nel Mondo”. www.lucatripaldijewelry.com
