May 8th – 14th 2016

Handbuilding. For all.

The purpose of the workshop is to experiment searching for richly texturized yet delicate surface effects. They will be applied on simple shapes using hand building techniques and the extruder. We will use porcelain which will be fired at high temperature decorated with glazed and metal salts, subsequently treated with low temperature materials such as glazes, sands, copper and gold luster. Some objects will be fired many times in order to obtain unique natural precious surfaces like minerals born from earth.
This course is an ideal continuation of course number 20, "Jewellery in Porcelain", in that the techniques taught may be applied to create most interesting elements for jewellery.

The total cost of the course is 980 Euro; Single price supplement: 140 Euros.

The workshop fee includes the following
Tuition (6 – 8 hours per day, studio open 12 hours)
All materials and firings
Lodging in double room; single room on request, add 140 €
Welcome dinner and welcome breakfast
A freshly prepared Tuscan Lunch with wine on all working days.

La MeridianaLuca Tripaldi was born in Turin, Italy, where he currently lives and has his studio. After training in graphic design, he worked for ten years in Mario Audello Studios as a sculptor, making masks and special effects for many opera houses like “Scala di Milano” and “Arena di Verona”. In 1998 he opened his own ceramics studio in Turin. He uses porcelain, preferring unglazed surfaces or only glazed in some parts with crystalline glazes and dry glazes, in order to get strong contrasts. The most part of his jewels are in black or white porcelain, decorated with ceramic transfers. He conducts an intensive teaching activitie, holding workshops throughout Europe and the United States. He writes a technical ceramic column for the Italian ceramic magazin  ”La Ceramica in Italia e nel Mondo”.
