Throwing, handbuilding and surface treatments. For all

The purpose of the workshop is to experiment searching for richly texturized yet delicate surface effects. They will be applied on simple shapes made on the wheel or using hand building techniques. We will use porcelain which in some cases will be treated with metallic salts at the bisqued state, then fired to high temperature or otherwise be fired at high temperature and subsequently treated with low temperature materials such as glazes, sands, copper and gold luster. Some objects will be fired four to five times in order to obtain unique natural precious surfaces like minerals born from earth.

Cost: € 960
The workshop fee includes the following:
- Tuition (class is 6/7  hours per day with 12 hours studio time)
- Materials and firings
- Lodging in double room; single room on request at extra cost of 140 €
- Welcome dinner and welcome breakfast
- A freshly prepared full Tuscan lunch with wine on all working days.

La MeridianaLuca Tripaldi was born in Turin, Italy, where he currently lives and has his studio. After training in graphic design, he worked for ten years in Mario Audello Studios as a sculptor, making masks and special effects for many opera houses like “Scala di Milano” and “Arena di Verona”. In 1998 he opened his own ceramics studio in Turin. He uses porcelain, preferring unglazed surfaces or only glazed in some parts with crystalline glazes and dry glazes, in order to get strong contrasts. The most part of his jewels are in black or white porcelain, decorated with ceramic transfers. He conducts an intensive teaching activitie, holding workshops throughout Europe and the United States. He writes a technical ceramic column for the Italian ceramic magazin  ”La Ceramica in Italia e nel Mondo”. www.giallocaino.com
