June 22 –July 1st 2017

Sculpture and handbuilding techniques. For all

In this course we will learn the most important basic skills of handbuilding. We will use these skills such as solid modeling, coil building, slab construction and simple pinch pots to create a series of forms. The forms will range from vases, bowls, various objects modelled such as fruits or vegetables, trays, pedestals and other inventive objects of our choice. The final result will be the use of these various forms to create a dynamic sculptural still life, reflecting on what elements of design aid in the creation of an interesting three dimensional form. We will use a beautiful local terra cotta and concentrate on form rather than colour and glaze. We will learn ways to make these objects dynamic by using well intentioned concepts and practiced skills and by the use of textures, carving and imprints applied to the clay, differing scales of pieces to create tension, and the use of negative space in our assemblages.

The total cost of the course is € 1300 Euro; Single price supplement: 200 Euros.
The workshop fee includes the following
Tuition (6 – 8 hours per day, studio open 12 hours)
All materials and firings
Lodging in double room; single room on request, add 200 €
Welcome dinner and welcome breakfast
