LA MERIDIANA TEACHING AWARD RESIDENCY
Ceramic educators, professional artists and studio potters who do hold a teaching position in the Ceramics Department of a College, University or Art Centre are invited to apply to this Teaching Award Residency. It is intended for those wishing to benefit from a sabbatical leave, in order to explore new ideas in a setting which is both highly inspiring and an ideal retreat for concentration. La Meridiana offers large and well equipped studio space with choice of different clays, glazes and firing techniques.
MISSION
La Meridiana has been committed to continuing education in the Ceramic Arts since the early 80’s and with this award it wishes to give the opportunity to highly motivated teachers to benefit from the direct contact with a region unique in history, culture and ceramic tradition like Tuscany in order to foster educational improvement through implementing of the creative process.
FUNDING
The Residency Teaching Award Program is granted by La Meridiana as part of it’s mission in the education of the Ceramic Arts and supported by NCECA, National Council of Education in Ceramic Arts
(www.nceca.org).
REQUIREMENTS
Ceramic educators from any country who are actively teaching can apply to the La Meridiana Teaching Award Residency, for a length of a residency from four to eight weeks. The Residency Program supports residencies in the months of February and March, generally finishing at Easter.
At the end of their stay, awarded residents are invited to expose their experiences, diverse aesthetic approaches and techniques in a workshop or seminar, open to an international audience.
La Meridiana, in accordance with the artist, reserves the right to retain some of the work produced in its studio as contribution to for it’s Studio Collection.
Residents are also invited to comunicate their experience in a blog to be linked to the La Meridiana website, documenting their experience with images and impressions.
Residency artists are asked to contribute to the cost of housing with a fee of 80 euros per week and, according to the type of work, a fee to cover costs of materials and firings.
APPLICATION DEADLINE. August 15
La Meridiana Advisory Board evaluates the applications for the Residency Teaching Award and will reply to all applicants by October 15. The main criteria for the evaluation are the applicants teaching curriculum, the quality of the presented work and of the study proposal. The present offer is for two awards every year.
