RUTHANNE TUDBALL. Born in California, Ruthanne completed her education at the Goldsmith's College in London. She set up her first studio in 1978 and ever since has been conducting workshops throughout Europe and the United States. She draws her inspiration from the rhythmical movement of the earth and from the human body; her main concern is with clay and the pleasure of manipulating it during throwing. In this short time Ruthane has made fresh and significant contributions to ceramics. Her pots are inventive yet practical. Her reputation rests on two firm bases: the first, her confident and skilful throwing, which involves modifying the pot with cutting tools while is still on the wheel and wet; The second, her pioneering work with soda glazes and their dramatic effects.
