JANE PERRYMAN, who trained initially at Hornsey College of Art in London and later spent a year at the Keramisch Werkcentrum in Holland, is well known as a potter whose work is of highly individual quality. She exhibits internationally and her work is to be found in private and public collections in many countries. She has travelled widely, this year revisiting India, furthering her study of ways of pottery making and firing. Her finely formed pots are made using a variety of handbuilding techniques and their highly distinctive surfaces and patterns are made using processes which combine the use of slips, burnishing and controlled use of smoke-firing techniques. Her book "Smoke Fired Pottery", published in 1995, is a definitive survey of this fascinating topic.
